European Green Capital

type

Assistance to owner (AMO)

Context

Aware of the role that cities have to play in the environmental transition, since 2010 the European Commission has awarded the "European Green Capital" prize to a city that has demonstrated the quality of its environmental work, its ability to disseminate its good practices and to bring the environmental theme to life. To organise the award, it delegates a secretariat with the task of monitoring all aspects of the award (communication, technical evaluation, etc.).

Mission

Defining a communication strategy around the prize (Pracsis)

Organising the technical evaluation of the candidate cities (CityTools-Pracsis)

Approach

Each city was assessed by independent experts on the basis of 12 environmental criteria (energy, air quality, mobility, sustainable urban planning, water management, waste, etc.) and a detailed questionnaire. CityTools was mobilised to organise the evaluation of the candidate cities with a jury of international experts, and to write the evaluation reports.
