Sustainable neighbourhood coordinator

type

Assistance to owner (AMO)

Context

The implementation of a determined policy to develop sustainable and resilient neighbourhoods in the Brussels-Capital Region, aiming to support and accelerate the transition and shift in the culture and practice of territorial development. To do so, it definitively integrates sustainability and environmental issues into urban plans and projects. In practice, it seeks to materialise ambitious sustainability goals in neighbourhood-level operations.

Mission

The mission involves carrying out cultural propagation to ensure the dissemination of the principles and tools of "Be Sustainable", as well as providing training on how to use them, so as to make the practices of urban and regional planning more sustainable. The mission is divided into different strands of work, namely:

  • tailored and pedagogical training
  • coordination of the network of actors (including an online platform and targeted actions)
  • guidance of neighbourhood projects
  • provision of tools and information (Toolbox)

Approach

We interpret the role of the Coordinator as a vehicle for changing the culture of project development. Working on this culture requires a thorough understanding of the processes and practices of the actors who manage urban development. For us, the establishment and facilitation of a network is one of the most vital aspects of the mission. In addition, a particular emphasis is placed on the tools available in the Toolbox in order to improve the efficiency of guidance and ensure the gradual autonomisation of the project leaders.
